OK here's the story as I understand it. Jerry Buss and Kobe had a talk at the end of last season. Kobe would like more money but Buss would have to pay a huge tax for going over the cap. If Kobe opt's out of his contract and becomes a free agent Other teams will offer him a lot. The Lakers have a right match any offer to keep Kobe without being taxed for going over the cap. So this is a way to pay Kobe more money and not pay the luxery tax. Kobe isn't going to leave the Lakers, Not even if he and Shaq have an all out fist flying brawl.

I doubt he will I mean you got shaq malone and payton what more do u need? But then he already has 3 fingers covered maybe he wants HIS team and do it again?

Neither Snaq, Malone, or Payton are gonna be around with Kobe until the end of his career.
