Why do the NBA winners always claim to be World Champions? NORTH AMERICA IS NOT THE WORLD!!! The Association Football World Champions are Brazil, because they played and beat the rest of the world. There are also World Club Champions, but after winning their national championship, they then have to take on the rest of the continent, and then they have to beat the rest of the continental champions. But it would seem that to be Basketball World Champions, all you have to do is beat the rest of the country and a few Canadian teams.

There are only two tournaments that give a country the right to be World Champions. The World Championships, which were won by Serbia and Montenegro, and the Olympics. So the current World Champions are not Detroit but Serbia and Montenegro. And given that the "Dream Team" have already lost to Lithuania and Costa Rica, I just don't see how some people can claim that the winners of the NBA are World Champions. What does the "N" stand for in NBA (at least they name the league properly, unlike the "World" Series in baseball"? So what are they the champions of?
